Well, here I go

I am casting on, but I wanted to check my math with some others. I am making the sweater for Kyra, she wears about a 24 months in most clothing. My gauge is 4spi. My [K] is 16. Is that about in the ballpark with everyone else?

I am doing the same long tail cast-on I have always done. Morwenna, what kind of cast-on do you usually do? It sounded like long tail was new to you, so I am wondering if I am thinking of something else.

And yes, I am probably over-thinking this, as I tend to do. lol

I cast on again last night (re do) and am happier with how it came out. I got pretty fast at the long tail now--yes it's new to me! It always seemed like too much trouble before to figure out how much yarn I needed. I always just cast on one needle, loop style as a kid, but when I started doing soakers I learned to knit on. I really like knitting on! I knit off too.

I am making this for Rowan who is going to be 9 and wears 10s in most clothing. I measured her favorite sweater, from the Gap and I got 18 for my [K] number. I am using 6s for needles also.

My K is 18, so it's close, Donna.

Another question...did the first decrease on the second row. Going on to the second decrease, do I start it *before* the marked stitch, or after?

I posted a "notes on decreasing" previously, Donna - that should help you.

i'm nervous now - i got 20 for my K (28"chest)- I'm also knitting at 4 st/in and am aiming for a size 5ish. Morwenna getting an 18 on 6s for a size 10 makes me think my jacket is going to be huge.

I dunno Marnie. So far, my sweater looks like it will be about the size around I was going for.
